Portland Winterhawks netminder Cam Lanigan posted his first career shutout as the Hawks (3-1-0-0) earned a 1-0 win over the visiting Kelowna Rockets (0-2-1-0) Friday at the Rose Garden.
Lanigan stopped all 31 shots that came his way as he backstopped the Hawks to the win.
The game was scoreless through both the first and second periods, setting up a 0-0 game going into the third.
The scoreless tie was finally broken 9:50 into the third period with the Hawks on a power play when defenseman Derrick Pouliot scored on a shot from the point to make it 1-0, which would stand as the final.
Portland had a 35-31 advantage in shots Friday. Kelowna goaltender Jordon Cooke stopped 34 in the loss.
The two teams meet again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Rose Garden.
