Nic Petan Named To Canada's U-18 Team

Portland Winterhawks forward Nic Petan has been named to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team for the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, which will take place from Aug. 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.

Petan was one of 40 players invited to Canada’s tryout camp, which had been held over the last four days in Toronto, Ontario.

“It’s a tremendous accomplishment for Nic to make Canada’s team, as he was in a tryout camp against the best Canadian players in his age group,” said Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “Nic improved steadily over the course of last season, and I’m confident he will have a strong showing for Canada in the tournament.”

Petan played 61 games for Portland as 16-year-old rookie last season, posting 14 goals and 21 points for 35 points. His Winterhawks teammates voted him, along with Chase De Leo, as co-Rookies of the Year.

Canada has won the gold medal at the tournament 17 times in the 21-year history of the event, including four straight first place finishes. Winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot suited up for Canada’s gold medal-winning team in last year’s tournament.

Season tickets and 20- and 12-game ticket packages for the 2012-13 season are on sale now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
