Winterhawks’ Mac Carruth Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 14 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .963.

 

Carruth returned to the Winterhawks and recorded a shutout in his first game of the season making 26 saves as first star of a 4-0 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday.  He continued his strong play on Friday stopping another 26 shots as part of a 5-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders.

 

Carruth, a 20-year-old from Shorewood, MN, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Winterhawks and was selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.  A two-time recipient of this award last season, Carruth finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 42-17-2-0 including two shutouts with a goals-against-average of 2.96 and save percentage of .904.

 

Also considered for the award this week was JP Anderson of the Sarnia Sting who posted a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .921, and Antoine Bibeau of the P.E.I Rocket who went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.47 and save percentage of .935.
